President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Justice Olukayode Kekere-Ekun as the Substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s judicial history.
The well-attended event held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, marked the formal beginning of Justice Kekere-Ekun’s tenure as the nation’s top jurist.
During the ceremony, Justice Kekere-Ekun pledged to uphold the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ensuring independence of the judiciary and promotion of justice for all Nigerians.
President Tinubu, in his remarks, urged the CJN to foster national unity, uphold the rule of law, and ensure the judiciary’s integrity.
“Your Lordship’s appointment is a testament to your distinguished career and commitment to justice,” Tinubu said.
Justice Kekere-Ekun’s swearing-in follows her confirmation by the Senate, in line with the 1999 Constitution.As CJN, she will lead the nation’s judiciary, overseeing the Supreme Court and ensuring the administration of justice.
