A fire incident which occured in a furniture market at the Ojota area of Lagos has consumed goods worth millions of naira after an electrical fault from a nearby transformer.
The permanent secretary of the Lagos state Emergency management agency, Oke osanyintolu, confirmed the incidence occured at about 1pm on Thursday after the agency received a distress call which was met with immediate response.
Oke said “Upon the arrival of the Tiger Response Team at the incident scene by 1404hrs, it was discovered that several shops used for the production and sale of furniture items were engulfed by fire. Investigations conducted by the LRT revealed that the immediate cause of the inferno was an electricity power surge from the power transformer stationed beside the shops.Fortunately, no casualties were recorded at the incident scene and no injuries were sustained due to the incident. However, properties worth a fortune were destroyed by the inferno.”
It can also be recalled that recently, a fire incident also occured at a market in the Ajah area of Lagos state which consumed goods worth millions of naira. Market occupants are further advised to be careful and take note of all electrical appliances and it’s operation to further prevent loss of lives and properties to fire incidents
