The minister for power , Adebayo Adelabu has reiterated that the power sector of the country is being commercialized to attract more investors which will enable the sustainability of a consistent power supply.
It could be recalled that consumers have serially held protests across various areas protesting the cost of a unit on the Band A tariff which costs #209/kwh. Although the electricity has been stable but the consumers are worried about the cost of getting power.
The minister in a response to that said “I need to correct an impression. There’s a section of the media that says this revenue is an additional burden on the consumers. No, it is not. It is just a mere reallocation of resources from what they used to spend on petrol and diesel. Now they are paying to enjoy a good power supply”.
He also compared the current cost of the Band A tariff #209/kwh to #915/kwh which is the cost of generating electricity by the private sector.
He concluded by calling on the public to support the ministry in it’s goal of achieving a stable electricity at an affordable rate.
