Governors allegedly plot move to delay implementation of LG Autonomy

In a recent development after the Supreme Courts judgement on the finances of the local governments in Nigeria, it has been alleged that some governors are lobbying the delay in implementation of the judgement.

According to the address of the president on the 1st of October which commemorates the independence day celebration, the president Bola Ahmed Tinubu reiterated that his administration will uphold this judgement and do all posible to grant financial autonomy to the local governments.

According to punch newspapers, an insider within the presidency revealed that He stated, “The process is on and governors are already lobbying to stall the implementation of the apex court ruling as the panel prepares to submit its report next week.” “The implementation will start any moment now. The ministries of finance and justice are working to finalise details of implementation.”

As the President await the report of the 10-man committee which was set up to look into the implementation of the judgement, Nigerians questions the integrity of the governors.
