If you’ve ever taken a stroll down the heart of Ikorodu, you might miss it at first glance, but there it is, tucked away like a quiet storm: Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH). To some, it’s just another school. But to we the students, it’s a whole world. A world of passion, pressure, and everything in between.
Formerly a polytechnic, now a full-fledged university, LASUSTECH has been on a mission: not just to teach, but to shape thinkers, creators, and problem-solvers. Here, education isn’t just about passing exams; it’s about learning how to survive, grow, and maybe even thrive in a world that doesn’t hand out chances easily.
One thing about LASUSTECH? It demands your best and then asks for more.
You’ll see it in the 8am lectures that somehow feel like 5am. You’ll feel it in the mountain of assignments that magically appear every week. And you’ll hear it in the way students casually refer to their school as “Lasustress”, a nickname earned, not given.
But it’s not all doom and gloom.
For every tough lecture or unexpected test, there’s a moment of joy, loud Aluta gyrations that shake the air, colorful departmental events, friendship forged over course work and shared suffering, and that sweet sigh of relief after finishing a particularly stressful semester. That’s LASUSTECH too the laughter, the late-night gist, the hustle culture, and the unspoken bond we all share.
Then there are the lecturers. An interesting bunch, really. Some are strict, some are surprisingly chill. Many are both. They treat us like their own, sometimes lovingly, sometimes with the tough love that makes you question all your life choices. But deep down, we know they mean well. They want us to succeed. And that, in itself, is something to respect.
It’s also impossible to talk about LASUSTECH without mentioning the “SHEGE” every student goes through. If you haven’t seen SHEGE in LASUSTECH, are you even a student here? Because the stress we face from project palavas to results pressure, from trekking under the sun to begging course reps for updates. These things test your will. But they also make you stronger.
Still, for all the stress and sleepless nights, there’s a strange kind of pride that comes with being a LASUSTECH student. We’re not just here to get certificates, we’re here to become something more. Future entrepreneurs, engineers, communicators, creatives, and innovators. That’s the goal.
So if you’re thinking about joining us, welcome in advance. Just know it’s not going to be a walk in the park. LASUSTECH will stretch you, test you, and sometimes frustrate you. But it’ll also teach you, shape you, and give you a story worth telling.
And for those of us already in the system, hang in there. Let’s make these four years count (and please, let it just be four years 🙏).
