FG issues 7-days ultimatum to Discos to Replace Faulty Equipment

The federal government has issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Electricity distribution companies to completely replace any weak or faulty equipment within their distribution network sequel to a two month notice earlier issued to the Discos on the same issue.

Turkur Aliyu , the Nigerian electricity management services agency said this on at the 2024 customer service week event in Abuja and reiterated that most of the equipment are weak and old.

He also mentioned a recent occurrence of electrocution in Cross river state capital , Calabar and said the Port Harcourt electricity distribution company which owns the facilities has been ordered to upgrade the facilities.

He said ” we were there in Calabar two times to ensure that what we asked them to do was done but we were surprised that they had not done it and so we issued an enforcement notice to them. But when we looked at the networks generally, we also discovered similar networks across the country. So we went to the drawing board and issued enforcement directives to the entire utility company.”

He also advised consumers to engage certified electricians when they have issues with installation on their properties.
