The Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has called on notable Nigerians to invest in the fashion industry as it contributes an estimated sum of $6.1B dollars to the nations GDP.
She said “Nearly 90 percent of the ankara consumed on our continent is imported, leading to an annual loss of approximately $3 billion to foreign manufacturers. We must change this.We must reclaim our fashion narrative by strengthening local production capacities and ensuring that the benefits of this vibrant industry remain within our borders.”
She also reiterated that the industry is expected to grow to $15.5B by 2025. She noted that investors should key into this opportunity to promote the made in Nigeria textiles and key into its trending market.
The minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Nneka Anibeze, in a statement expressed that the minister stressed on the need for empowerment programmes in the local textile like Adire,Ankara e.t.c. as also a means of reinvigorating the economy and boost local productions.
