Dr Raymond Kuti , the president of the Guild of Medical Doctors has raised an alarm on the rate at which private hospitals have been shutting down as three of six hospitals shut down monthly while existing ones struggle to operate fully.
According to a report from Punch newspapers, Dr Raymond said ” Averagely , three out of six private hospitals are shutting down every month in Nigeria and this trend is primarily driven by the challenging economic environment”.
He also noted that the sudden surge in the expenditures on energy caused by the migration to Band A has further crippled the private health sector as the facilities pay more for energy compared to the previous years.
He also reiterated and lamented the 500% increase in the prices of consumables used by the hospitals as the fall of the naira is a major reason because the consumables are being imported.
It can also be recalled that multiple reports were made about the outflux of medical practitioners from the country to seek greener pastures has been affecting the health sector and the potential damages that lies ahead.
