Olusegun Osoba , the former executive governor of Ogun state has called on professional journalist on letting untrained journalists handle the media as they keep mis informing through the use of the social media.
He made this call at the honorary lecture of the pioneer General secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, pa Jola Ogunlusi who was marking his 90th birthday anniversary.
He said “journalists must not allow anybody to take over their father’s belonging” by always updating their knowledge of the social media, to cope with the rapid changes in media practice worldwide.”
According to punch newspapers, a report in April said that “60 per cent of social media users advocate mandatory user identity verification to deter the spread of fake news by imposters and automated bots”.
It could be recalled that in 2022 , the Federal government of Nigeria placed a ban on X formally know as twitter due to its suspension of the account of the president of the country , as media professionals hope that cases like this do not resurface , a media check and control is imminent.
