Lion Mauls Zoo Keeper to Death at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Ogun State

A tragic incident occurred at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) Wildlife Park in Ogun State, where a 35-year-old zoo keeper was mauled to death by a lion.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omotola Odutola, confirmed the death of Babaji Daule, a zoo handler originally from Bauchi State.

According to reports, Daule was attacked by the lion on Sunday after he carelessly entered its enclosure during an unscheduled feeding display.

The incident took place after the park had officially closed for the day, with some visitors still present.

It is believed that Daule, feeling overly confident with the animal, opened the gate to demonstrate a feeding routine, which resulted in the deadly attack. He died instantly from the injuries sustained.

In a statement, the park’s management confirmed that the lion was subsequently put down to prevent further harm.

They also noted that the time of the incident did not coincide with the lion’s usual feeding schedule. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the matter.

The tragic death has sparked discussions around zoo safety protocols and the handling of wild animals in captivity.
