The Federal Government has announced Friday, September 5, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
A statement released on Tuesday in Abuja, signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, confirmed the holiday.
Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, extended his warm greetings to all Muslims in Nigeria and around the world. He encouraged the Muslim Ummah to follow the Prophet’s examples of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion, highlighting these virtues as essential for building a united and progressive nation.
“The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and follow the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
The minister also urged all Nigerians, regardless of their faith, to use the holiday as an opportunity to pray for the country’s peace, security, and stability. He called for support for the government’s initiatives aimed at achieving national harmony and sustainable development.
