The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has called on passengers who witnessed an altercation on an Ibom Air flight to come forward with information to aid in their investigation. The incident involved a passenger, Comfort Emmanson, also known as Comfort Bob, and a member of the cabin crew.
The NCAA’s appeal for eyewitnesses follows an in-flight incident on Ibom Air flight IAN513, where Ms. Emmanson allegedly assaulted an air hostess. The confrontation reportedly continued after the flight landed, involving airport security personnel.
In a statement, the NCAA, through its spokesperson Michael Achimugu, emphasized the importance of gathering firsthand accounts to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation. The authority aims to “hear both sides of the story” before reaching any conclusions.
The investigation seeks to determine the full sequence of events and identify any potential breaches of aviation regulations. The NCAA has stated its commitment to holding all responsible parties accountable, not only for the passenger’s behavior but for any other misconduct that may have occurred.
The incident gained further attention after a video of Ms. Emmanson in a state of undress was circulated online. Ibom Air has denied any involvement of its staff in the release of the video.
The NCAA’s investigation is intended to identify any gaps in aviation regulations and procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future, thereby enhancing the safety and security of air travel in Nigeria. The authority is urging any passengers with relevant information to contact them to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
