Governor Aiyedatiwa Pardons 117 Inmates in Ondo State

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has granted clemency to 117 inmates serving various sentences across the state’s correctional facilities.

Among those pardoned, 19 convicts have been released, while others on death row had their sentences commuted to life imprisonment. Several inmates also received reduced sentences.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, it was revealed that the governor’s decision followed recommendations from the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, reflecting Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to “rehabilitation and second chances within the justice system.”

The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, who chairs the Advisory Council, noted that the action aligns with Section 212 (1) (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Ajulo further explained that each application was thoroughly reviewed to ensure fairness in the council’s recommendations.
