Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has urged Nigerian Afrobeats artist and lawyer, Falz, to clear his father’s name instead of targeting him. This statement follows Falz’s letter of retraction concerning alleged defamatory comments made by VDM.
In an Instagram post, VDM responded to Falz’s legal actions, asserting that his remarks were prompted by a voice call from Bobrisky, who claimed that Falana, Falz’s father, received 10 million naira from him. Despite Bobrisky later denying the authenticity of the voice call, Falz confirmed they had indeed spoken, alleging that Bobrisky sought 3 million naira, insisting that Falz requested the 10 million naira for his father.
VDM questioned the truth of the situation, stating, “Ask Bobrisky to clear your father’s name from that voice call instead of coming for me. I wasn’t the one in the recording. My only aim in posting was to expose corruption in our justice system, not to gaslight anyone.”
He further elaborated on concerns regarding Bobrisky’s release from prison, stating, “Going back to everything now, Bobrisky came out with luggage upon his release from prison. Who takes luggage to prison? Also, how did he have a phone to make an online call while in prison? I know the process well, and there are strict protocols for calls.”
VDM has pledged to release another video that will affirm the content of the viral recording, emphasising that the issue at hand is not solely about Bobrisky, but rather the corruption that allows affluent individuals to evade justice while the less privileged suffer in the prison system.
Investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo also addressed the situation on his X handle, highlighting the pervasive corruption within the Nigerian judiciary, using the Ikoyi prison as a prime example. He remarked, “There’s enormous work to be done in cleaning up this country; the first step is understanding the scale of the rot.”
As the public awaits the conclusions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding the investigations into the leaked recording and the officials involved in Bobrisky’s case, tensions continue to rise surrounding this unfolding controversy.
