Three corps members in Gombe State will have their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) service year extended due to misconduct, according to an announcement made by the State NYSC Coordinator, Chinwe Nwachuku.
The decision was revealed during the Passing-Out Parade for the 2023 Batch “C” Stream I, held in Gombe.
Nwachuku explained that the three corps members were found guilty of various infractions following a review by the NYSC Disciplinary Committee.
Although the specifics of their offences were not disclosed, she confirmed that the disciplinary actions followed a thorough process.
“The NYSC has established rules and regulations to guide all corps members, and failure to abide by these will attract consequences,” Nwachuku stated.
“The three corps members whose service year is being extended are a reminder of our commitment to discipline and accountability within the scheme.”
While 662 male and 548 female corps members successfully completed their service year and were praised for their perseverance, the three individuals with extended service terms will be required to remain in the programme to compensate for their violations.
Nwachuku used the opportunity to congratulate the outgoing corps members, urging them to apply the skills and training they received during their service year to future endeavors
She highlighted the importance of the cultural knowledge they gained about the people of Gombe State, stressing its role in fostering national integration.
“The capacities built during your service year should be applied in your careers, further education, or entrepreneurial ventures,” she said, adding that their exposure to Gombe’s culture would contribute to national unity.
