Fatima Kyari, the daughter of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, has passed away at the age of 25.
Fatima died today, with her funeral prayers held the same day according to Islamic rites at the Annur Mosque in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The solemn event was attended by mourners, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, who led the gathering in paying their respects to the Kyari family.
In a statement following the funeral, Vice President Shettima expressed his deep condolences to Mele Kyari and his family, praying for the peaceful repose of Fatima’s soul. He also asked God to grant the family the strength to bear the painful loss of their daughter, who passed away in the prime of her life.
“Vice President Kashim Shettima has condoled with the family of the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Malam Mele Kyari, over the loss of his daughter, Fatima Kyari,” the statement read. “VP Shettima, who prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Fatima, asked God to grant the family the strength to bear the painful exit of their daughter, who was in her prime.”
News of Fatima Kyari’s death was disclosed by Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, who expressed his sympathy in a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote: “Deepest condolences to @MKKyari, OFR, the GCEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, on the passing of his 25-year-old daughter, Fatima Kyari. She passed away on Friday morning and has since been buried in Abuja according to Islamic rites. Allah ya jikan ta.”
The passing of Fatima has drawn condolences from across the country, with many extending their sympathies to the Kyari family during this difficult time.
