Nigeria’s national power grid has suffered another significant collapse, occurring today at exactly 9:17 a.m. This marks the second failure in less than 24 hours, increasing frustrations among millions of Nigerians electricity consumers nationwide.
The outage has been confirmed by Ikeja Electric Plc and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), two of the country’s largest power distribution firms, who stated that they are working diligently to restore service. In a public announcement, Ikeja Electric notified affected customers, saying, “Please be informed that we experienced another system outage today, affecting supply within our network.” The company reassured customers that efforts were underway to restore power as quickly as possible, stating, “Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders,” while requesting patience during the extended outage.
Eko Electricity Distribution Company also reported similar disruptions, indicating that the grid collapse had resulted in widespread power losses across their network. “We are currently working with our partners as we hope for speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power supply is restored,” the management stated.
The repeated failures of the national power grid have heightened discontent among consumers, with many expressing disappointment over the ongoing electricity shortages. Citizens are increasingly vocal in their calls for urgent reforms to establish a more reliable power supply.
