The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a stern warning that it will not approve admissions for the 2024 and 2025 academic sessions in any tertiary institution that fails to submit its matriculation list. This move aims to enforce a Federal Ministry of Education mandate designed to stop the rise of illegal admissions.
During a meeting with Admission Desk Officers, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede directed that, “Institutions, which fail to submit their matriculation list for the 2022 and 2023 admissions, should not have their admissions approved for the 2024 and 2025 admission exercises.”
Prof. Oloyede acknowledged that a concession is being made for the 2024 admissions since some institutions are still conducting the process. However, he emphasized that they must comply as soon as their admissions are concluded, warning that the board would make “erring institutions scapegoats” and announce appropriate sanctions in due time.
To enforce this, the Registrar announced that defaulting institutions will be invited for a meeting, with affiliate institutions required to attend alongside their parent institutions to have penalties spelled out. He also ordered that an advert be placed in major newspapers to publicly declare that admissions for non-compliant institutions will not be approved.
When contacted on the matter, JAMB spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, confirmed that the list of institutions that have failed to comply will be made public.
