The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has cancelled all personal and social engagements to honour the memory of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on 5th November 2024. This gesture is intended as a mark of respect for General Lagbaja, a respected leader who dedicated his career to the fight against insurgency, armed banditry, and violent extremism in Nigeria.
In a statement released by the Nigeria Police Force on 6th November, the IGP expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss, describing General Lagbaja as a committed military figure who earned widespread admiration for his dedication to the nation’s security. The Inspector-General’s two-day suspension of all non-essential engagements reflects the high regard in which the late General was held by the police force and the wider security community.
The Nigeria Police Force also extended its condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, as well as General Lagbaja’s family, colleagues, and loved ones. The statement underscored that General Lagbaja’s legacy of service to Nigeria’s security will remain a lasting influence on the nation’s armed forces and people.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, issued the announcement on behalf of the Inspector-General, affirming the police force’s solidarity with the Nigerian government and armed forces in mourning the loss of a distinguished leader.
