The Chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, has expressed a firm commitment to collaborating with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in tackling corruption and financial crimes. Speaking on Tuesday, 5th November 2024, in Abuja, Mr Olukoyede emphasised the need for every stakeholder to contribute to building a robust front against corruption.
The declaration followed a courtesy visit to the EFCC’s Jabi headquarters by the CCB Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Usman Bello. While acknowledging the strong alignment between the mandates of both organisations, Mr Olukoyede called for a reinforcement of their partnership.
“This isn’t just a courtesy visit; it’s an opportunity to strengthen our collaboration,” Mr Olukoyede stated. “The EFCC and CCB are both dedicated to the fight against corruption and financial crime. We need rigorous investigations and prosecutions to combat these issues effectively. You don’t fight corruption with kid gloves in Nigeria. It requires a firm, uncompromising approach.”
The EFCC Chairman urged that corruption cannot be eradicated by mere appeals, adding that while many desire a better Nigeria, it will not happen unless Nigerians themselves take decisive action. He also encouraged Dr Bello to revitalise the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to enhance its effectiveness, thereby bolstering the anti-corruption drive.
Dr Bello, the CCB Chairman, expressed his appreciation for the EFCC’s achievements and affirmed the Bureau’s readiness to work closely with the Commission. “The EFCC has distinguished itself, and we are looking forward to your support in creating a more robust anti-corruption framework,” he said.
The meeting underscored both agencies’ commitment to strengthening their joint efforts, aiming to create a more transparent and accountable Nigeria.
