The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has elevated 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Director across various departments, following the approval of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The announcement was made on Tuesday after the release of results from the first-ever Computer-Based Promotion Examination, which took place on August 12, 2025, at the National Open University, Duste-Alhaji Study Centre in Bwari Area Council.
According to the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, the exercise was aimed at addressing the backlog of promotion arrears for staff on Grade Level 16, covering the years 2023 to 2025.Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, explained that the 49 newly promoted directors will occupy part of the 63 declared vacancies across different cadres.
He noted that the Education Officer cadre produced the highest number of successful candidates with 20, followed by the Accountant cadre with nine. Other cadres such as Civil Engineering, Social Welfare, Tourism, Fisheries, and Medical Officers had one vacancy each, which were all filled by the only eligible officers available.
Eze further revealed that the Education Officer cadre had 820 eligible officers competing for 20 slots, while the Administrative cadre had 12 officers vying for 10 vacancies.The FCTA had earlier disclosed that the introduction of the CBT model for the promotion exam was to enhance transparency and reduce external interference.
A minimum pass mark of 60 percent was adopted to ensure quick result processing and alignment with technology-driven standards.
