Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has sparked mixed reactions online after sharing his hopes for Nigeria in 2027.
Jonathan, who led the country from 2010 to 2015, took to his official Instagram page to express his vision for the nation’s future. Known for his contributions during his time in office, the former president reaffirmed his commitment to seeing Nigeria prosper.
In his post, Jonathan described peace as “the bridge that unites hearts and strengthens nations,” adding that 2027 should be a year of “decisive action, not empty promises.” He expressed his wish for it to be the year Nigeria restores its land, revives its economy, and reclaims its pride, stressing that “one choice can shape a future worthy of our children.”
His statement drew a flurry of reactions from Instagram users. While some praised his message and urged him to contest for president again, others suggested he should step aside and support Labour Party’s Peter Obi if he truly wanted to please the youth. A section of commenters, however, opposed any possibility of him returning to power.
