The Dangote Group has taken custody of the remains of Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, following her death on Sunday morning.
Ruth, who had her leg amputated after being hit by a Dangote truck near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, passed away just weeks after the tragic accident. She was confirmed dead around 6:30 a.m. on August 31, 2025.
Her family, through a statement signed by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, announced the loss with “heavy hearts,” requesting privacy during their mourning period. They also assured that details of her burial would be made public at a later date.
A family source told PUNCH Metro that representatives of Dangote Group were contacted immediately after Ruth’s death and later moved her body to the mortuary. The source added that the family expects the company to also cover her burial expenses, having already taken responsibility for her hospital bills.
Another grieving relative described Ruth, fondly called “Bobo,” as a cheerful and loving individual, recalling memories of her time with family in Ketu-Alapere and visits to their Omojua Estate home in Kosofe.
Eyewitnesses at the accident scene had earlier recounted how the truck crushed her leg before being stopped by a bystander. Phyna had also publicly demanded that her sister be flown abroad for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, the Dangote Group confirmed its involvement, stating that officials were on the ground after the incident, liaised with law enforcement, and offered medical assistance to the family. The company further assured that compensation would be provided in line with its welfare policy.
