The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old man, Babawale Kolawole, for allegedly sexually abusing his 16-year-old niece.
The offence was said to have occurred last week at Okeodunwo Street, Igbado community, in Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement on Thursday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspect was already in custody while investigations were ongoing.
According to him, the teenager alleged that her uncle had been assaulting her almost daily and had forced her to undergo abortions on two occasions.
“Upon receiving the report, the Gender-Based Offences Unit of the command arrested the suspect and commenced prosecution procedures,” Ayanlade said.
The command assured that it remained committed to protecting the rights of women and children and ensuring offenders face justice.
Meanwhile, the police also confirmed the arrest of one Wale Ibrahim for allegedly stabbing his friend to death during an argument over N14,000 at a construction site in Ondo.
The police said the 25-year-old victim, Fisayo Ajetumobi, was stabbed in the chest and died on the spot. The suspect has since been arrested and will be charged in court.
