Panic broke out in the Iyana Isashi area of Ojo Local Government, Lagos State, on Friday after a man identified as Alex, popularly known as Fleximore, was shot by suspected gunmen.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. when Alex, who lived at Cele Niza in Iyana Isashi, was reportedly accosted by two men on a motorcycle while on his way to meet a friend. Witnesses said one of the assailants pulled out a gun and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene.
“The gunshot drew people to the spot, and we found him in a pool of blood,” a resident told PUNCH Metro. “He was rushed to the hospital immediately.”
Despite receiving medical care, Alex slipped into a coma and succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning.
Further findings revealed that the attack may have been connected to a fight he had with unknown persons at a nightclub in the area a day earlier.
“His friends said he got into a heated argument that turned physical at the club. That’s unusual for him because Alex was easy-going. People believe what happened to him was linked to that altercation,” another resident, identified simply as Quadri, said.
Preparations are now underway for Alex’s burial.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she was not aware of the incident but promised to reach out to the Divisional Police Officer in the area for confirmation.
The killing adds to a growing list of violent attacks in Ojo and adjoining communities along the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, which have witnessed cult-related clashes in recent months. In August, PUNCH Metro reported that unidentified gunmen shot and killed a passenger inside a commercial bus at Okoafo, after trailing it on a motorcycle.
