The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has introduced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones) to improve traffic control, security surveillance, and public safety. General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki said the move marks a shift from traditional methods to digital intelligence in line with the state government’s innovation agenda.
The drones will provide real-time aerial monitoring, allowing quicker interventions, better emergency response, stronger security, and improved discipline among road users. Bakare-Oki assured the public that operations will follow strict privacy, ethical, and regulatory standards.
He added that this development supports Governor Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda, which prioritizes technology and innovation for a safer and more efficient Lagos. The drones will work alongside LASTMA’s existing emergency hotline services to reduce accidents, travel time, and traffic congestion.
