Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has appointed his daughter, Helen Eno-Obareki, as the state’s Acting First Lady, following the recent passing of his wife, Pastor Mrs. Patience Eno.
The governor made the announcement during a condolence visit by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, alongside other dignitaries, on Friday in Uyo. Governor Eno explained that the appointment was made to ensure continuity in the duties and initiatives of the Office of the First Lady, which his late wife had passionately led.
“To maintain the Office of the First Lady and carry forward my late wife’s work, I present our daughter, Helen, to continue the duties of the office. She will work closely with the Deputy Governor and the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare,” Governor Eno stated.
The governor expressed full confidence in his daughter’s ability to uphold her mother’s legacy, continuing the various projects and initiatives that Pastor Mrs. Patience Eno had championed during her tenure.
In an emotional tribute to his late wife, Governor Eno described her as his “greatest supporter and toughest critic,” emphasizing the irreplaceable role she played in both his personal life and his administration. He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining her legacy through the work of the First Lady’s office, ensuring that her vision and contributions continue to impact the people of Akwa Ibom.
