Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially handed over the Lagos State General Hospital in Epe to the federal government, initiating its upgrade to a tertiary healthcare facility.
The handover ceremony, which took place during the maiden Lagos Trauma Conference, marks a new chapter in healthcare services for residents of Lagos.
The facility will now be known as the Federal Medical Centre, Epe. Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Tunji Alausa, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize the agreement, showcasing a strong commitment from both state and federal governments to improve healthcare outcomes.
The Federal Medical Centre, Epe, is set to receive substantial investments in infrastructure, medical equipment, and human resources. The upgrade will enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide specialized healthcare services, addressing more complex medical cases and reducing the need for patient referrals outside the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the development as a “game-changer” for healthcare in Lagos, emphasizing that residents will now have access to world-class medical care within the state. The upgraded facility will also serve as a hub for medical research, training, and innovation, positioning Lagos as a leader in healthcare provision in Nigeria.
This collaboration highlights a significant step forward in the state’s efforts to improve healthcare services, bringing advanced medical solutions closer to the people.
