Ex-Convict Nabbed in Lagos for Cultism, Firearm Recovered

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an ex-convict, identified as Onamade Kayode, for alleged cultism and unlawful possession of a firearm in the Abule Eko area of the state.

The suspect was apprehended on August 18, 2025, by officers attached to the Ijede Division following a distress call that a man was brandishing a gun and threatening residents at Sabon Kasuwa.

Police sources said Kayode was trailed to an uncompleted building, where he was arrested. A preliminary investigation revealed that he had previously served a jail term for cult-related offences and was released from prison in 2022.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to owning a firearm and later led operatives to a hidden spot inside a toilet pipe in the same building, where a locally made gun was recovered.

The police said Kayode is assisting investigators with efforts to track down other members of his cult group and recover more weapons. He is expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the swift response of the Ijede Division, noting that their professionalism led to the arrest and recovery of the firearm.
