A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has sentenced a 42-year-old Indian woman, Neetu Neetu, to five years imprisonment for drug trafficking. She was caught with 72 parcels of heroin, weighing a total of 11 kilograms, disguised as chocolates and factory-sealed in wafer wraps.
Neetu was arrested at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) during the inward clearance of Qatar Airways flight QR1431 from Bangkok, Thailand, via Vietnam and Doha. The illicit drugs were discovered in her luggage following a thorough search based on credible intelligence processed by the NDLEA.
She was later arraigned before Justice Simon Amobeda in charge number FHC/KN/CR/65/2025 and found guilty on two counts of drug trafficking. The court sentenced her to 10 years in total—five years for each count—with an option of paying a N2 million fine.
In a related development, Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court in Kano also sentenced a 42-year-old Angolan businessman, Mbala Dajou Abuba, to five years in prison. He was caught by NDLEA officers at the Kano airport while attempting to board Egypt Air flight MS 880 to Istanbul via Cairo. He had ingested 120 pellets of cocaine, weighing 1.829 kilograms.
Similarly, another drug trafficker, Eze Christian Ikenna, was convicted by a Federal High Court in Enugu. He was arreste at Akanu Ibiam International Airport upon arrival from Brazil via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. NDLEA operatives discovered 11.20 kilograms of cocaine concealed in herbal tea sachets in his luggage.
Eze was arraigned in charge number FHC/EN/CS/9/2023 before Justice M.G. Umar and was found guilty on two counts of unlawful trafficking and possession. He was sentenced to three years on each count, totaling six years,
