A Nigerian man has allegedly died in police custody after his female neighbor reportedly arranged for his arrest and paid officers to discipline him.
The incident, which occurred at the Ikota Police Post in Lagos, has sparked widespread outrage on social media.
The claim surfaced in a viral post on X (formerly Twitter), where the victim’s brother narrated the circumstances leading to his death.
According to the post, the deceased was arrested at his residence in Chevron, Lagos, by officers from the Ikota Police Post.
According to an eye witness “He was arrested on the 11th and detained. The estate manager informed his wife, and when they arrived on the 12th, they pronounced him dead—without any charge or allegation against him. allegedly tortured, and later died in custody.
The brother further alleged that the police secretly deposited the victim’s body at Epe General Hospital mortuary without notifying his family.
“My brother was arrested at his residence in Chevron by officers from the Ikota Police Post in Lagos. He was detained without committing any offense and later died in their custody,” the statement read. “Instead of notifying his family, they took his body to Epe General Hospital mortuary and abandoned it. They tortured him before dumping his corpse on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.”
The victim’s brother also claimed that a female neighbor orchestrated the arrest, stating, “His neighbor ordered the arrest.”
As the post gained traction online, social media users expressed outrage and called for justice.
One user, @ferdicson4u, wrote, “The lady should be arrested and investigated immediately.”
Another, @999Timi_, stated, “Omo wtf… I pray justice is served. The neighbor and the officers deserve worse.”
User @Ken_airr expressed deep anger, writing, “The lady should be arrested? On my mama, as a lady you killed my brother, I’m the one killing you myself. With my full chest. Arrest you? Highest na me dem go arrest, but you see you? Gone and buried for sure.”
A user, @m_jamz, highlighted concerns about the police station involved, stating, “The Police station is at Ajiwe, not too far from Ajah Underbridge. It was this same Police station that had that police officer who shot and killed one pregnant woman on Christmas Day at Ajah Underbridge. She was reportedly pregnant with twins.”
Another user, @Patrick03383733, called for unity in addressing such injustices: “Until we start uniting and directing our grievances to the right channels, we will continue to experience injustice in all aspects of life—economic, legal, security, and political injustice.”
As of the time of this report, the Nigerian police have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
