The leadership of the 10th Senate has once again adjusted its legislative calendar, moving the resumption of plenary sittings from September 23 to October 7, 2025.
The postponement was contained in an internal memo signed by the Chief of Staff to the Senate President, Chinedu Akubueze, and made available to PUNCH Online on Tuesday.
With the new schedule, lawmakers will now extend their annual recess by an additional two weeks—an adjustment that has stirred unease within the National Assembly.
Although the memo gave no official reason for the shift, sources familiar with the development told our correspondent that the delay was meant to allow senators fully participate in activities marking Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations on October 1.
The fresh adjustment marks the second time in recent months that the 10th Senate has altered its resumption date, fueling concerns over the chamber’s legislative pace and commitment to addressing pressing national issues.
Observers say the extended recess could slow down consideration of key bills and oversight duties awaiting the lawmakers, particularly at a time of heightened public expectations.
