The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says more than 3.5 million Nigerians have completed online pre-registration in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The commission disclosed this in a press release on Monday, signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun.
“As at Sunday, 7th September 2025, a total of 3,544,850 Nigerians have now pre-registered online in three weeks since the commencement of the exercise on 18th August 2025,” the statement read.
Providing further breakdown, INEC said 48.24 per cent of registrants are male, representing 1,709,933 persons, while 51.76 per cent are female, amounting to 1,834,917 persons.
Young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 accounted for the majority of registrants with 2,291,809 entries, representing 64.65 per cent of the total figure. Students also made up a significant portion, with 882,441 individuals about 24.89 per cent completing their pre-registration online.
According to the commission, the high turnout of young people reflects growing interest in political participation ahead of future elections. The CVR is designed to allow eligible citizens to register, update, or transfer their voter information through a hybrid process that begins online and is completed at designated physical centres.
INEC urged all Nigerians who have started the online process to visit registration centres nationwide to finalize their biometrics, warning that failure to do so would render their applications incomplete.
The commission assured the public that adequate arrangements have been made to accommodate the growing number of applicants, while also encouraging political parties, civil society groups, and community leaders to mobilize citizens for the exercise.
The CVR, which commenced on August 18, is part of INEC’s preparations to update the voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections and other off-cycle polls.
