Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commissioned seven newly completed road projects spanning over 16 kilometres in Badagry Local Government Area and Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), marking a bold step toward equitable infrastructure development across the state.
The announcement, made yesterday via the governor’s official Facebook page, highlighted the strategic importance of the projects in enhancing connectivity, easing traffic congestion, and boosting economic and cultural access in the region.
A key highlight among the commissioned projects is the Samuel Ekundayo-Toga Road, which has been expanded from a single lane to a dual carriageway with comprehensive drainage infrastructure.
This upgrade is expected to significantly ease congestion around Limca, Ibereko, and the Badagry Roundabout, while improving access to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
In addition, the state government upgraded Hospital Road, a critical route that now provides smoother access to major historical and commercial landmarks such as Agbalata Market, Nigeria’s First Storey Building, and the Badagry Heritage Museum, all central to Badagry’s legacy as a cultural tourism destination.
“Badagry holds deep economic and cultural significance not just for Lagos, but for Nigeria,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
“As a gateway to five West African countries, this region has the potential to become a major hub for tourism and cross-border trade.”
The governor also addressed concerns from residents in Oko Afo, Ilogbo, Eremi, and Pota, where roadworks are still ongoing. He appreciated their patience and assured them of his administration’s continued commitment to completing the projects.
“Our goal is simple: no part of Lagos should feel left behind. We are pushing development deeper into our communities and not just the city centres,” Sanwo-Olu emphasized.
He concluded by underscoring the broader impact of infrastructure on community growth, noting that improved roads are not just physical upgrades but gateways to opportunity, access, and sustained development.
“Badagry, this is just the beginning,” he affirmed.
