Yesterday in Mushin, Lagos, a routine stop-and-search by Alakara Police Division officers led to a significant event when a suspected firearm discovered in a vehicle was revealed to be a toy gun, causing a stir.
According to a source, officers intercepted a Toyota Camry and instructed the occupants to exit for a body search, which revealed no contraband. However, a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered an object that initially resembled a firearm.
The situation escalated as the object was confirmed to be a toy. Two officers reportedly expressed anger and questioned the driver about the toy’s presence. Following intense questioning, one officer unexpectedly returned the toy gun to the driver, leading to confusion and disagreement among his colleagues.
An officer was overheard questioning, “Why would you give it back to him? Do you know what he might do with it next time?” The incident drew the attention of onlookers, some of whom voiced concerns about the potential dangers associated with possessing items that mimic real firearms.
