Mushin residents commend Chairman Haruna Olatunbosun Haruwe for the ongoing road construction near Olosa bus stop. The project involves demolishing parts of some buildings to expand the road.
According to the engineer in charge, Mr. Bankole, “The project will deliver an interlocked road, Streetlights and Covered drainage.” He said.Mr. Bankole clarified that residents were notified before the project commenced.
“We ensured awareness by clearly marking the extent of the construction within their properties, indicating the exact measurements of the areas affected” He stated.
Despite facing temporary disruptions, several residents expressed their appreciation for the project. Pharmacist Kunle Olayemi, whose property was impacted, voiced his positive outlook, stating that the road expansion would ultimately increase property values in the area.
He highlighted the benefits, including a wider road, improved street lighting, and proper drainage, which he believed would lead to higher property values and rental income. Mr. Olayemi clarified that the demolition primarily affected buildings constructed too close to the road.
He explained that those who didn’t allow sufficient setback were directly impacted. He added that his own building, set back adequately during construction, would not be affected, even if the fence needed to be moved.
Pharmacist Patience acknowledged the project’s positive aspects but expressed concerns about its immediate impact on her business. She noted that the road closure hindered customer access, as the sand removal wasn’t completed before the total blockage.
“People who want to buy from us will not be able to pass due to the blockage and that’s affecting me now” she said.
Oluwayemisi Alarape, a local trader, also acknowledged that, despite the current disruption to sales, the project was ultimately for the community’s benefit. She expressed a forward-looking perspective, recognizing that the improvements would lead to long-term advantages and benefits for the community once the project is completed.
Jay Peters, another trader, encouraged residents to focus on the long-term benefits of the construction, despite current challenges. He emphasized that while the project affects everyone now, it’s ultimately for community improvement, with a better future anticipated.
