A 27-year-old man from Niger Republic, Aliyu Salisu, narrowly escaped death after being trapped under the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building in the Lifecamp area of Abuja.
The building came down on Saturday evening, August 2nd, 2025, around 6:15 PM. While many others managed to escape, Salisu wasn’t as lucky — he was stuck under the debris for almost 10 hours before rescuers could reach him.
According to the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, the police got a distress call shortly after the incident. The Divisional Police Officer from Lifecamp Division quickly led a rescue team to the site. They secured the area and immediately began a joint rescue operation with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s Development Control Department, and Zeberced Construction Company.
Thankfully, at about 4:00 AM on Sunday, August 3rd, the team managed to pull Salisu out alive. He was rushed to Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu, where he’s currently receiving treatment and responding well, according to officials.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, was present at the scene and praised the swift and coordinated efforts of everyone involved in the rescue.
