A devastating fire broke out at Radio Nigeria’s Lagos office, located at Plot No. 35, Ikoyi Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Wednesday night.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded to the emergency immediately, dispatching firefighters from Dolphin and Ebute Elefun Fire Stations as first responders. The fire was reported to have started around 5:30 pm, and the firefighters met the fire well-alight due to the substances involved in the material composition of the studio section.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties, and the collaborative efforts of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Federal Fire Service, and other emergency responders, including the Nigerian Police, have brought the situation under control. The fire has been confined to the studio section of the station, preventing further damage.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, and investigations are ongoing. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has assured the public that damping down of the fire embers is currently ongoing. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of the building and the potential risks of fire outbreaks in older structures.
The Broadcasting House, where Radio Nigeria is located, has a rich history dating back to 1950 and has been the site of several significant events in Nigeria’s history. The complex has been home to many famous personalities, including Professor Wole Soyinka and Professor Chinua Achebe.
