Erik Ten Hag, a Dutch professional football manager and former player, was dismissed from his position as the men’s first-team manager of Premier League club Manchester United on Monday.
A statement was released by the club on their social media page and email. In light of the club’s performance at the start of the season, the former Premier League team announced updates on Monday.
“Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager.
“Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited “.
Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan an English broadcaster, journalist, writer, and media personality says on his page on X “Every single word that @Cristiano told me about Ten Hag in our explosive interview was born out by events.
“He was an over-promoted, delusional, disrespectful, and thoroughly mediocre manager who couldn’t handle world class talent or run a club that size”.
“We can get a lot of inspiration from this and more confidence that we can do it,” said Ten Hag in the aftermath of that win over Newcastle. “We are still at the start of restoring Manchester United to where we belong – winning trophies. We are together.” The next week after the win over Newcastle came a 7-0 humiliation at Liverpool.
While critics shared their thoughts on this issue, Manchester United fans and supporters reacted as shocked by the news until confirmed by the club’s statement on social media X while others seemed happy and sad as they said they look forward to a fresh start from the club.
