The Nigeria Police Force has rescued a 24-year-old Ghanaian national from a human trafficking ring and apprehended five suspects, comprising both Nigerians and Ghanaians, in Ofada, Ogun State.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the operation was executed by operatives of the INTERPOL Annex, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Alagbon, Lagos, following a formal request for assistance from INTERPOL Accra.
Investigations revealed that the victim and his father were deceived in July 2025 by a 25-year-old Ghanaian woman, Hassana Abban, who resides in Ofada. She allegedly promised to arrange their travel to Canada in exchange for 40,000 cedis (about ₦4.96 million).
Upon their arrival in Nigeria, however, their passports and mobile phones were reportedly seized, and they were forced to participate in schemes linked to fraudulent online trading platforms.Acting swiftly on the request from INTERPOL Accra, police operatives tracked the victims’ location and successfully rescued them on September 16, 2025.
The coordinated operation led to the arrest of Abban along with four accomplices: Odubuasi David (Nigerian), Yahaya Salifu (Ghanaian), Sherifa Haruna (Ghanaian), and Ebenezer Ofosu (Ghanaian).“All five suspects are now in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
The rescued victims have since been reunited with their families in Ghana,” the statement confirmed.Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their professionalism and stressed the Force’s commitment to regional cooperation in combating human trafficking and other cross-border crimes.
He also assured the public and international partners that no criminal syndicate operating across borders would evade justice. This latest rescue follows a similar case in July 2025, when another Ghanaian national, Sammed Iddrisu, was freed in Abuja after being tricked with false promises of employment abroad.
