The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded another major breakthrough in its war against drug trafficking and abuse with the seizure of 589.536 kilograms of illicit substances in Adamawa State.
According to a statement released by the agency, the interception followed a series of intelligence reports and coordinated operations by NDLEA operatives across strategic locations in the state. The drugs, which were packed in large quantities and concealed to evade detection, were destined for distribution within Adamawa and surrounding states.
Although the agency has yet to release the full breakdown of the substances seized, preliminary investigations suggest that the consignment contained a mix of cannabis sativa, psychotropic substances, and other controlled drugs commonly abused by young people and criminal groups.
The NDLEA State Commander in Adamawa commended the operatives for their vigilance and swift response, noting that the seizure is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug cartels operating in the North-East. He added that the operation also prevented what could have been a massive inflow of harmful substances into the region.
Speaking further, the Commander stressed that arrests are being made in connection with the intercepted drugs, and investigations have commenced to uncover the full network of traffickers behind the consignment. He assured that those found culpable will face the full wrath of the law.
The NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.), while reacting to the development, reaffirmed the agency’s determination to rid Nigeria of illicit drugs. He emphasized that the fight against narcotics remains one of the government’s top priorities, considering its link to violent crimes, insecurity, and social decay.
He also urged Nigerians to support the agency by providing credible information on drug-related activities in their communities. “The fight against drugs is a collective one. We need the cooperation of the public to expose peddlers, traffickers, and users who are destroying lives and futures,” Marwa said.
This latest seizure adds to the long list of recent NDLEA successes across the country, including massive interceptions of cannabis farms, methamphetamine laboratories, and shipments of opioids in seaports, airports, and border communities.
With over half a ton of drugs now taken off the streets in Adamawa, the agency reiterated its resolve to intensify surveillance, strengthen community partnerships, and sustain its offensive against drug syndicates to ensure a drug-free Nigeria.
