Nigerian TikTok content creator, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Peller, has raised alarm over a ₦18 million tax bill issued to him by the Lagos State Inland Revenue Service (LIRS).
In a viral video, Peller pleaded with the government for leniency, saying he could not afford the sum. “Government, please, I need you to pity me. I don’t have anything; I am just managing. How can you tell me to come and pay a huge tax? Do you want to kill me? You also have someone like me as a child at home? Why are you doing this to me?” he lamented.
He linked the tax bill to an online rumour alleging he paid fellow TikToker Gehgeh ₦25 million to appear on his livestream. In another clip, Peller denied the claim, explaining that his fans contributed to studio costs and that his online partnerships typically earn between ₦200,000 and ₦500,000.
Peller stressed that the viral ₦25 million rumour painted a false picture of his earnings, which he believes may have attracted the attention of tax authorities.
