Veteran Nigerian comedian Atunyota Alleluya Akpobome, professionally known as Ali Baba, has been evicted from his multi-million-naira property in Victoria Island following a court dispute over its ownership.
Bailiffs of the Federal High Court carried out the eviction of Ali Baba and his company, XQZMOI TV, from the property located at 324A Akin Ogunlewe Street. The action followed a writ of possession signed on August 15, 2025.
The property was initially sold to Ali Baba in 2021 for ₦220 million by the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), which claimed it was recovering debts allegedly owed by Harold Expansion Industries Nigeria Limited.
However, Harold Expansion disputed the debt, with their lawyer, Benjamin Olayiwola Sadibo, insisting the property was sold wrongfully while they had been making repayments.
On July 31, 2025, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa of the Federal High Court dismissed AMCON’s case, ruling that the corporation failed to provide convincing evidence of the alleged debt. The judge noted that AMCON did not present a statement of account to support its claim or file a defence against Harold Expansion’s counterclaim.
The court ordered that the property be returned to the family of its original owner and imposed ₦500 million in damages on AMCON.
Court records indicate that Ali Baba, who was reportedly a tenant of the original owner before the sale, purchased the property from AMCON while the case was still in court and despite an existing preservation order.
