Daniel Bwala, the newly appointed Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, has responded to Senator Ali Ndume’s call for him to apologize for his past criticisms of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following his appointment last Thursday, Ndume had asked Bwala to apologize for his opposition to Senator Kashim Shettima being chosen as Tinubu’s running mate in 2023.
Bwala dismissed Ndume’s advice, stating that he has a “fantastic” relationship with Vice President Shettima. He mentioned that their relationship began before the court’s judgment on the matter and grew stronger during the National Assembly leadership emergence. Bwala expressed concern for Ndume, saying he needs prayer and guidance from God, but emphasized that his focus is on supporting President Tinubu.
Bwala’s appointment has sparked debate due to his prior role as spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign and his vocal criticism of Tinubu and the APC. Notably, Senator Ndume has since praised President Tinubu’s decision to appoint Bwala, commending Tinubu’s open-mindedness. Bwala succeeds Ajuri Ngelale, who took an indefinite leave last September.
Addressing concerns about overlap of roles, Bwala assured that each person knows their responsibility, and his focus is on achieving President Tinubu’s mandate. As the third Special Adviser on a media-related role, alongside Bayo Onanuga and Sunday Dare, Bwala emphasized the importance of teamwork and supporting the President.
