The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a directive instructing all its members to resign from other political parties, though it failed to specify a deadline for compliance.
This was made known by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday following a high-level caucus meeting.
“Though final order has been given to all members to resign membership of other political parties, the caucus was silent on the timeline,” Abdullahi told journalists.
He also announced that all pending matters regarding the African Democratic Association (ADA) had been settled. “The Coalition has rested everything concerning the ADA.
That means they are not interested in the registration or otherwise of the association,” he added. In a move to unify the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, Abdullahi revealed that all presidential aspirants under the ADC had agreed to rally behind whoever emerges as the party’s flag bearer.
“All the presidential aspirants have agreed to support whoever wins the primaries election,” he said. The party is also gearing up for off-cycle governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti states.
Abdullahi confirmed that the National Working Committee (NWC) would soon release the timetable for primaries in both states.
Prominent figures at the meeting included ADC National Chairman David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf, former Kaduna governor Nasir el-Rufai, ex-Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former Rivers State governor Chibuike Amaechi.
The meeting underscores the ADC’s strategic efforts to consolidate its internal structure and reposition ahead of the 2027 polls.
