Makinde Confirms September 26 Date for Olubadan Coronation After Visit to Ladoja

The coronation of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland has been officially fixed for Thursday, September 26, 2025, following Governor Seyi Makinde’s visit to former governor of Oyo State and Ibadan High Chief, Rashidi Ladoja.

Governor Makinde, during the visit on Tuesday, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and historic installation ceremony for Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin, who is set to ascend the revered throne of the Olubadan.

Speaking after his closed-door meeting with Chief Ladoja, the governor disclosed that all necessary arrangements were being finalized to make the coronation befitting of Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage.

“I came here today to personally inform High Chief Ladoja and seek his blessings as one of Ibadan’s most respected elders. We have agreed on September 26 as the coronation date, and preparations are in top gear,” Makinde said.

Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, expressed his satisfaction with the decision and assured full support for the success of the ceremony.

The upcoming coronation will mark a new chapter in the history of Ibadanland, following the passing of the late Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, in March 2024.
