Big Brother Naija Season 7 Winner Renounces Surname Amid Family Controversy

Phyna Otabor, the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, has sparked controversy with her latest announcement. The reality TV star revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that she has decided to renounce her surname, Otabor, citing that it has been proven she has no family ties or anyone who knows her origin.

This development comes after Phyna was embroiled in a social media controversy in 2022. Following her Big Brother Naija reality show victory, Phyna’s family alleged that she had abandoned them. In her recent tweet, Phyna shared that she has been going through a challenging time, recounting mistreatment from trusted relatives that she was oblivious to due to her childhood innocence.

Phyna’s emotional tweet read, “I am publicly dropping my family surname OTABOR… it has been proven that I actually have no family and nobody knows how I came about… it’s been rough with me lately. I’m in a place where I can’t even describe how I feel.” She also shared that she was “tossed around” by relatives, but was too young to suspect anything.

Reactions to Phyna’s tweet have been mixed, with some users expressing support and encouragement. OA Sota wrote, “Your story is still unfolding. You’re not alone in this.” Humu Khair added, “Prioritize yourself, everyone will adjust!! You have a great life ahead of you, live life to the fullest.” However, others like Boyz mocked her situation, saying, “Dem wan use billing kill mama and e don turn fight.”
