The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has stated that the removal of fuel subsidy by the administration was not driven by political considerations ahead of future elections.
Speaking on the controversial policy, Gbajabiamila emphasized that President Tinubu’s decision was taken in the best interest of the country, even though it came with significant economic challenges for Nigerians.
According to him, the president acted decisively without weighing the political cost, demonstrating his commitment to long-term reforms rather than short-term electoral gains.
He noted that while the policy has sparked mixed reactions across the nation, it underscores Tinubu’s resolve to implement tough but necessary measures to stabilize Nigeria’s economy.
Gbajabiamila assured that the government is working on palliative measures and long-term plans to cushion the impact of subsidy removal, stressing that Nigerians would eventually see the benefits of the reform.
