Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Gbubemi Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has declared that he would willingly donate ₦1 billion to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) if he had the resources.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the award-winning artist stressed that church donations should come from genuine faith rather than compulsion.
“If I had a billion to contribute to the RCCG, I would do it and even more. It is not by force to serve the Lord; they did not say that if you don’t drop ₦1bn, you will not enter heaven. As for me and my household, we will continue to support the work of Christ shamelessly, no matter what you people throw at us. You are just fulfilling the scriptures. God bless you,” he wrote.
Odumodublvck also pointed out the practical financial needs of churches, noting that funds are essential for evangelism, logistics, and assistance to less privileged members.
“Shey na Holy Spirit dey fuel the gen? Na Holy Spirit go pay for logistics for evangelism? The church needs money, much more money than the average business,” he added.
His comments came shortly after RCCG’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, launched a fundraising drive during the church’s 73rd annual convention at the Redemption Camp. The initiative called for:
- ₦1 billion from 10 major contributors
- ₦100 million each from 100 individuals
- ₦10 million each from 1,000 worshippers
- Between ₦1,000 and ₦1 million from other members
The rapper’s statement sparked mixed reactions online. Supporters praised his conviction and openness, while critics questioned prioritising large church donations over direct community aid, especially amid Nigeria’s economic challenges.
The debate reflects wider tensions over the role of mega-churches in society, the responsibilities of public figures in expressing personal beliefs, and the balance between faith-based giving and social accountability.
