The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Professor Olumuyiwa Omotola Odusanya, has called on staff and students to embrace a culture shift aimed at building the institution into a globally respected brand of excellence.
According to a statement issued by Lanre Kuye, Director of Information and Public Relations at LASUSTECH, Odusanya made the call while addressing the university’s Congregation on Tuesday, September 9.
He said LASUSTECH is determined to become “a highly competitive, much-sought-after, globally acclaimed, world-class university,” stressing that the vision is more than a slogan.
The statement noted that the Vice-Chancellor urged the university community to uphold values of excellence, discipline, and innovation, warning that negative publicity could derail ongoing progress. “Who would want to partner with or support a university at war with itself, with negative stories in the media?” he asked.
Kuye added that Odusanya outlined significant strides under the university’s IMPACT agenda, including major infrastructural projects such as a professorial building, a central research laboratory, multiple auditoria, and the newly commissioned Automotive Testing Centre by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).
On the academic front, LASUSTECH secured full accreditation for 22 undergraduate programmes, with three earning interim status, while preparations are underway for the assessment of 14 more in October.
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted achievements in staff welfare and development, including the payment of promotion arrears, the implementation of the harmonised salary scale, and renewed training sponsorships.
According to Kuye, Odusanya commended the university community for completing three uninterrupted academic sessions, describing it as evidence of LASUSTECH’s growing strength. “We all have a unique opportunity to write our names in the sands of time and make history as persons who were granted the privilege of being here at the start of a new university,” he said.
Odusanya concluded by urging collective responsibility in shaping LASUSTECH’s future. “Working together, we can make LASUSTECH the best and most sought-after university in Nigeria in the near future. We cannot afford to fail.”
